For those of you that are long time Afterburner Club members you may already be familiar with Kyle Smith.
A member of the club for about two years, Kyle is one of our success stories, and has recently been commissioned and is in training at OCS!
We were fortunate to have him join us for last month’s call and he gave us a little bit of an insider’s look into the life of a new recruit. Here is just a sample of what Kyle had to share with us all!!
Your First Days at OSC
As Kyle shared with you all this past call, your first few days at OCS or Officer Candidate School will make your head spin, especially if you have never been through any type of military training!
It will test your limits not only physically, but also mentally and even emotionally. He shared an experience about one recruit being insulted by one of the training officers which led to her quitting.
The strength it takes to not only make it to this point, but to then make it through can really not be underestimated! You are all, however, going to be prepared and I really want to congratulate you all for taking the time to both invest in your future and gather all the info you can about your future experience before hand!
There were also some questions for Kyle regarding the educational part of OSC and again he emphasized that preparations and discipline are the keys to success.
Depending on your academic history or strengths you may encounter subjects that you have difficulty with, but remembering that team work is about knowing when to rely on your strengths and when to utilize the strengths of others will ensure your success.
OSC is building the future leaders of our armed forces and remembering that they are pushing you because it is necessary and that persistence will get you through it will get you into flight school before you know it!
I want to thank Kyle again for his input in March’s call and congratulate him on his success!
For my Afterburner Club members, March’s call and newsletter is going in the mail tomorrow. Expect in your mailbox soon!
