Just as I emphasize in my Fighter Pilot Power Pack, getting your body in the best shape you can is critical to your success with recruiters, so as part of this new blog I will be giving you some great workout tips at least once a month to help prepare you for your flight slot!
The enormous stress that going at mach speeds has on the body can’t be underestimated. Making sure that your cardiovascular health is at its maximum will prepare your body for both the physical examination and thrill of going top speeds. One of the best strategies for getting your heart in shape is circuit training. Essential this method of cardiovascular and strength training exercise keeps your body guessing and moving.
It is a combinations of resistance training and high intensity cardio and usually involves short intervals of opposes exercises. Circuit training usually involves exercises for most major areas of the body and I have put together a quick workout that you can implement into your training program.
Sample Circuit
This circuit is a great one to start with as it really doesn’t require any equipment, or even a gym. So really there is no excuse not to get started right away! Depending on your physical fitness level, you’ll want to repeat this circuit 2-5 times.
- Squats– Do as many as you can, with your arms extended in front of you for 60-90 seconds
- Jump Rope– Yes, this may seem a bit girlie, but there is a reason all the boxers use this form of exercise. Do this for 1-2 minutes.
- Lunges– Make sure you keep your back straight and abs tight. Do these for 60-90 seconds. You can add weights for greater resistance.
- Jog or Run– For 5 minutes!
- Push ups– 30 seconds to one minute.
- Squats with Front Kick– Again, do these for 30-90 seconds.
Seriously gang, I can over emphasize the importance of getting in shape for your meeting with recruiters, so drop and give me 20!
