The U.S. government and the military always look at things from the standpoint of a cost/benefit analysis, meaning that they usually won’t go with something unless the benefit either makes up for or is even greater than the cost.
This makes sense. After all, would YOU invest in something if you were going to get less out of it that you put into it? I know I sure as heck wouldn’t!
A lot of bean counters look at things like the F-35s development and have trouble justifying the cost. This is largely countered by two things though: 1. The fact that technology does have to keep on progressing forward regardless, and 2. The fact that we’ve already invested so much into it that there is just no turning back now.
In the end, we’ll get a lot of benefit out of the F-35 for many years to come, but it’s important for you as a future fighter pilot to understand that when it comes to finding young candidates to fly these really expensive new machines, the same type of cost/benefit analysis applies.
Like any other business or organization, the military wants to get the maximum benefit for the minimum cost. So when sizing you up against the other potential fighter pilot candidates who are lining up to join America’s elite, selection boards will be sizing up the benefits you have to offer against the cost of training you.
To make yourself the most attractive candidate that you can possibly be, you have start your training right away! You will want to know what the selection boards are looking for in a pilot candidate and you will want to know exactly what to expect when you go through boot camp and flight training to the point where it will be a BREEZE for you and you can smoke your competition and be the one in your class that is selected for advanced jet training…
And then smoke your competition there too!
The fighter pilot mentality isn’t something that starts at boot camp and ends when you’ve reach your first squadron and are flying the jet of your dreams, it is something that starts LONG before you even submit your application packet and continues all through your career and even after you retire!
It’s a way of life! A life committed to WINNING!
When you show the people around you that the benefit of having someone like you far exceeds the time, effort and money that it takes to train you, you know that you are on a path to success in your career and in your life. Your laser-sharp focus will keep you right on the task at hand for the benefit of those whom you serve, and you’ll be filled with so much pride and self-respect that it will radiate off of you like heat off of the sun and people will want to be around you and look up to you during the mission.
That’s leadership right there, my young friend. That is what will separate you from the herd of other candidates and land you right into the cockpit of your dreams.
So don’t wait to start taking action to prove that the benefit of recruiting someone like you is worth way more than the cost, take action NOW!
