I recently wrote about the fighter pilot vision requirements for entering fighter pilot training, and it is a question I get quite often. While if you need to you can easily lose a few pounds and get in shape with a little motivation, what can you do if you have poor eyesight?
The answer is that there appears to be a lot of evidence out there that you can improve your eyesight with eye exercises.
If you think about it, that really does makes sense. Why would going for a jog and lifting weights improve your physical fitness, but exercising your eyes have no effect what so ever?
Here are a few great tips that I have come across that can improve your eyesight that I have used.
Take off your Glasses!
Ok, so maybe this is not the best idea if you are driving or operating heavy machinery, but if you wear your glasses all the time and don’t really need to then removing them occasionally will strengthen your eye sight. It will force your eyes to strain to see, and there have been studies that show this can improve vision, especially for near-sighted individuals.
Avoid Eye Strain
If you have a job that requires you stare at a computer all day (or you are just attached to one like most people in their teens and 20’s!) then taking a break every now and then is a good idea.
Also if you have been working for more than 10 or 15 minutes then you may want to look away at a distance of at least 10 feet for several seconds. This will force your eyes to change focus and prevent strain which can cause deterioration.
Eat Your Veggies
Ok, ok, I know I sound like your mother, but there are a number of vitamins and other nutrients that have been shown to improve your eye sight when taken in specific doses.
I am no doctor, but it is definitely worth looking into the more closely and asking your family doctor or eye doctor about this. There are also a number of great supplements available on the market that has been shown to improve your vision as well.
Do Your Eye Exercises
Do you know I used eye exercises to maintain and improve my vision while flying for the Marines? They sound crazy but I’ll tell you… they work.
In fact, I’m not the expert, Orlin is… Orlin wanted to be a fighter pilot and couldn’t because of his poor vision.
So what did he do? Eye Exercises. In fact, he shows you the exact program he used to pass the Navy Fighter Pilot Eye Exam.
His results are actually posted on his website. Check it out and let me know what you think?
