If you were listening in on October’s Afterburner Club call last Tuesday, then you already know what a great time we had with our special guest, Bob “Stambo” Stambovsky.
If you’re an Afterburner Club member and missed the call, don’t worry, because the MP3 is up in the members area and don’t forget, you will also be receiving it on CD very soon in the mail.
Stambo gave us an entire wealth of knowledge and experience that goes all the way back to the Vietnam War, when he first enlisted and became a crew chief and line chief for A-4 squadrons.
After the war, Stambo attended Embry-Riddle and got his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Aeronautics and was commissioned as a warrant officer. He then became a flight test engineer and that was where the fun part of his life and career really began. He flew in Air Force F-4’s for the DOD Research and Development program.
Stambo was also involved in the development of the F/A-18 Hornet and was present for the rollout of the first prototype. He got to ride in the F/A-18 for research and development at NASA and described it as a “quantum leap” over the F-4.
Now retired from the Marine Corps, Stambo is an instructor pilot with over 4500 hours in all kinds foreign jet aircraft including the L-29, L-30, Mig-15, Mig-17, and the HA-200. He is also an adjust professor at Embry-Riddle and has helped many young ROTC cadets there prepare for their dreams of becoming fighter pilots.
